NINJA

Kamal, is an eight-year-old Yemeni child who recently moved to New York with his family. After Kamal’s father, Munassar, leaves the house, Kamal adjusts to living with his mother, Aida, his grandmother, Hanifa, and his younger sister, Hawa.

While finishing a ride with an Uber client, Aida gets a call from Kamal’s school asking her to pick him up early, discovering from his Imam that Kamal has been accused of eating pork after his instructor finds plastic wrappings of pork pepperoni sticks in his belongings.

With this incident, we examine the dynamic of each family member and see their individual struggles to uphold Muslim values while living in a new country.
