Topic: In this conversation, Tom Igoe will talk about building physical MIDI instruments, share some recent attempts to explain musical concepts through code and electronics, and demonstrate some experiments in generating music together over the network, because how else are you going to do it right now? He'll show recent MIDI work built with Arduino, especially some of the newer networked Arduinos, and how they can interact with the Web MID IAPI."
Ton Igoe works in the area head for physical computing courses at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in the Tisch School of the Arts. In these courses, he teaches programming and electronics as tools for art and design, starting with how to sense and respond to human physical expression.
Tom´s research interests also include networks, lighting design, the environmental and social impacts of technology development, clocks, and monkeys. He is a co-founder of Arduino, and hope to visit Svalbard and Antarctica someday.
